It may have snowed in Chicago this week, but spring is right around the corner. March 20 is the spring equinox, also known as the first day of spring, which means it’s time to start thinking about the latest beauty trends. From makeup to skincare, here are four trends to keep on your radar and perhaps try out for yourself.
2016 seemed to be the year of highlighting and contouring. While we’re grateful for the innovation that is carving out our faces, it made us completely forget about blush. After bronzing and adding some glow, it’s easy to feel like adding blush to your look would put it over the top. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Instead of anything too heavy, opt for a blush that gives you a natural flush. Lately, I’ve loved The Balm’s The Stainiac cheek and lip tint. It’s the perfect way to add a bit of color to your face and it blends in well amongst highlighter and bronzer. Another plus? It seriously stays put all day and you can use it as a lip stain!
Cleansing balms and oils
Last year, we were introduced to double cleansing, which includes using one cleanser to remove heavy makeup and a second cleanser to wash your face and make sure every single bit of dirt is gone. More frequently than not, the first cleanser is a cleansing oil or balm since it literally melts makeup away. Personally, I love double cleaning and find it an essential part of my skincare routine. Even after I get out of the shower and have mascara around my eyes, I use a cleansing balm to easily get rid of it. They’re especially gentle on the skin and don’t involve tugging like makeup remover wipes do. If you want to try cleansing oils, I like Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and Neutrogena’s Ultra Light Cleansing Oil.
Gone are the days of a chunky, metallic highlight. Instead, glossy highlights are making their rounds and everyone loves it. Liquid or stick highlights tend to give off a more natural looking highlight than their powder counterparts, which often accentuate texture and pores. For a more lit-from-within type of glow, try Glossier’s Haloscope in Quartz or Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone. Both can be applied with your fingers for a subtle sheen. I can’t wait to try this trend out in the summer when I’m tan!

You might be thinking, what in the world is ice rolling? It’s rolling a handheld device that has a head full of water and gel across your face to get rid of puffiness and blotchy, red skin. It seems to come in and out of trend every few months but with skincare trending in such a large way for spring overall, ice rolling is definitely included. Other benefits include wrinkle reduction and overall lifting. It’s ideal for bringing a bit of the spa into your own beauty routine. Though I haven’t gotten my hands on one quite yet, I’ve been eyeing the Handsderma SkinCool Ice Roller.
